FAQ

Is there a „visitors tax”on Mallorca?

Since 1 July 2016, a Sustainable Tourism Tax has been levied on Mallorca to offset the ecological footprint generated by tourism on the islands. With the help of this tourist tax, colloquially known as „Ecotasa“, both international and national visitors and locals who stay in tourist accommodation on the island will contribute to the preservation of the Balearic Islands. For our LifestyleFincas this means that the following tourist tax will be charged when you arrive in Mallorca, as far as the amount is not already included in the rental price:

Adults from 16 years: 2€ per day, partly plus 10 percent IVA (VAT), depending on which tax model the provider is subject to. Children up to 16 years are exempt from this tax. From November to April, the amount is reduced to 0.50€ per day net and from the 9th day of stay in the same accommodation in general, the amount is reduced by 50% of the respective daily rate.

Whether the tourist tax is included in the rental price of your Mallorca finca or is charged

separately on site varies individually. You will find the relevant information on the respective finca details page under the menu item „Conditions of reservation”

How is the tourist tax on Mallorca used for sustainable tourism?

The tax revenues of all guests who stay in tourist accommodation on the Balearic Islands go into a fund that serves to promote sustainable tourism. This fund finances projects that promote sustainable, responsible and quality tourism. These projects support in particular the protection of nature, the rural environment and the sea, seasonal adjustment, cultural heritage, research and development, training and the jobs. The projects are selected by a commission for the promotion of sustainable tourism. The commission is made up of representatives from the Balearic government, the island council, town councils, economic and social actors and other businesses. The commission will prepare an annual plan that will fix the main annual objectives according to the criteria for territorial balance.

The Balearic Government’s website provides detailed information on the eco-tax and the projects that are planned or have already been realized from this revenue.
